Term 4

OVERVIEW 

This term of Clay College will focus on exploring wheel and hand building methods of constructing tableware. Tableware can be constructed using multiple ceramic working methods including wheel thrown, coiled, pinched or slab built. Decoration and  adornment methods are only limited to your imagination.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Explore multiple ceramic construction methods

  2. Explore multiple surface texture and adornment methods

  3. Explore multiple glazing techniques. 

MATERIALS NEEDED

Materials needed for this unit will be provided by D H Maker Studio.

Project

This Terms Exhibition will be a showcase of student pieces which explore the idea of Holiday Tradition.

Inspiration for your tableware could stem from traditions which surround the festive season.


Example Term 

Week 1

Intro to the clay studio. Project explanation. 

Week 2 

Manipulating wheel thrown objects - organic gravy jug demo/making.

Week 3

Pulling strong handles and elements of a good handle design demo/making.

Week 4

Project design and commencement. All Students to have commenced making their chosen pieces.

Week 5

Slip adornment technique. layering slips under glazes to create surface texture. Students make 4 x test tiles for glazes.Project led- Teacher assist

Week 6

Project led - Teacher assist. Students to glaze test tiles.

Week 7

Project led - teacher assist 

Week 8

Project led - teacher assist 

Week 9

Project led - teacher assist Week 10
